Fast Facts
- Our position is based on years of study.
- Lake Maumelle is not a natural lake. It is a reservoir built in 1959 for the sole purpose of providing drinking water.
- A watershed is defined as the area of land where all of the water drains into the same place.
- Unlike many lakes in Arkansas, Lake Maumelle is very shallow and slow moving making it more susceptible to reacting badly to soil washing in to it. See what other communities with similar reservoirs are facing. Such as San Fransisco and Wichita
- We are not opposed to new development. We believe it must be done in such a way as to keep the risk to water quality at a minimum. The cornerstone for Lake Maumelle is low density preservation of truly undisturbed open space.
- It is only in Zoning laws certain uses of the land can be prohibited. One proposed prohibited use in the watershed is a solid waste landfill.
